HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar announced the plan for Prime Minister Scholarship for 1000 best talents in Indian colleges. The scholarship will amount to 75,000 rupees. The plan for this scholarship is still under deliberation.
In order to arrest brain drain and promote innovations in the country, the HRD ministry has come to this decision. There are several useful prospects if and when this scholarship comes to effect.
The scholarship plan, according to HRD ministry officials, is for high school students. This plan will come into effect once it gets an approval from the cabinet. The details for eligibility and application will be available soon after this approval. “We are also starting a PM Scholarship. I have already signed the Cabinet note. That is under circulation. It will come to the Cabinet very soon,” Prakash Javdekar was quoted saying.
What will it achieve?
The plan is to provide a 75,000 rupees scholarship every month to 1000 students. It is primarily meant for students in the field of science and medicine. An expenditure of such a high amount is sure to have some serious motive behind it. The HRD Minister expressed his intent to bringing a serious end to brain drain with the help of this plan. Another important purpose that he wishes to achieve with the scholarship is an enhanced input in the Make in India project. An increase in the proportion of female students in the IITs is also a crucial objective.
Who will gain from it?
This scholarship plan will be eligible for students from IITs. Other students can also apply keeping in mind that their university has proper infrastructure for the Vishwajeet project and Uchchatar Avishkar Yojana. Uchchatar Avishkar Yojana was announced by HRD Ministry during IIT Council Meeting on 6th October, 2015. The program aims at increasing innovative designs in areas related to manufacturing. It is also helping talented minds to enter premier institutes of technology.
Since the scholarship is for augmenting innovation in the fields of manufacturing and technology, therefore, it will be available only for these students.
The Prime Minister Scholarship is an unprecedented move in the Indian Education history. A magnanimous effort like this is only to support the young population in contributing more to the national development. It is sure to benefit both the individual as well as the country.
