The examination was held at Surendranath College in Sealdah and began around 10 am . The examinees were asked to leave their belongings at a certain place before the exam began. However, after giving their examination, when they went to collect their bags, they realized that their belongings were not their place. Later they realized that not only were their bags were  dumped at some other place , but some of their belongings were also missing.

The candidates then became furious. They questioned the police officials in charge which soon turned into an ugly scuffle between the two groups. Police have alleged that the candidates attacked them and they had to resort to the lathi-charge to pacify the mob. The candidates blamed the police for shifting their bags to a different place without their knowledge and held the police officers, who were on duty , responsible for their missing belongings .

No one was injured in the encounter. The college authorities later lodged a complaint with the Muchipara Police Station following which the police started a probe. No report of any arrests have been made yet.
