Career Options After 12th Commerce

Choosing a career path after class 12 can be difficult. You need to collect as much information as you can to decide upon the right choice of subject for higher education. For students with commerce background in class 12, here is a detailed guide on what career options one can explore after passing senior secondary school. Specializations

Commerce students can pursue a specialization course in any subject after passing class 12. There is a general degree of bachelors’ of commerce and there is another one of honours. Both of these courses are of a duration of 3 years. You can appear for competitive exams such as Bank PO after the completion of your graduation. The following subjects are available for pursuing a B.Com degree:

Professional Courses

A commerce student has several professional courses to choose from. One of the most popularly chosen paths is that of chartered accountancy. It offers job options like Tax Consultant, an auditor, an advisor, a financial officer, etc. Company Secretary is an equally common professional course that commerce students choose after 12th. By undergoing this course, students understand the functioning and legal compliance relating to companies. A combination of both these courses is also a good option for career growth.

Two of the recently developed career paths for commerce students are ACCA and CIMA, courses for chartered accountancy affiliated to the UK and the USA respectively. These courses are relatively new in the country. But, they offer much scope and career development for young graduates.

Cost and Management Accountant is a much-preferred career option for students. There are various areas of work for a CMA and you can choose your specific field of work. Under this students need to study and gain knowledge relating to Costing, Planning, Controlling and different aspects related to Management Accounting. Certified financial planner is another career aspiration for students. This course is governed and conducted by Financial Planning Standards Board India (FPSB). It primarily deals with personal finance, planning and advising.

Other Courses

Students always have the option to study something totally different from their streams such as BA in English or journalism and mass communication. It only requires the student’s interest in the subject. There are several options of diploma courses for commerce students like international business, event management, etc.
